Weatherman is Ralphie's superhero alter-ego who made his debut in Kicks Up a Storm. He is a character created by Ralphie, Liz, and Tim, and is featured in Tim's in-universe franchise, The Adventures of Weatherman in which he is the main protagonist. He is played by Stuart Stone in Kicks Up a Storm and by Matthew Mintz in the episode's sequel, The Battle for Rock Mountain. He has a team of superheroes in which he is the leader. He is the rival of Captain Rock Man (Arnold).

Appearance[]

Kicks Up a Storm[]

Weatherman wears a green shirt with his emblem (a W shaped like a lightning bolt and a black cumulonimbus) replacing Ralphie's R logo. He wears a purple cape, black and white sneakers, and green trousers with—in Frizzle fashion—a pattern of clouds (complementing his Storm Force) His baseball cap is worn backwards. Towards the end, Ralphie/Weatherman reveals that Liz took part in designing the costume (explaining the cloud pattern).

The Battle for Rock Mountain[]

Weatherman is now muscular than his appearance as Ralphie, similar to how he imagined himself in the last episode. He now wears a blue superhero mask for eyewear, and his cape is red instead of purple. He wears a white super suit with blue gloves, blue superhero pants, and blue boots. The Weatherman logo is changed: the lightning bolt now faces vertically and the cloud is gray. His baseball cap is worn forwards. This outfit was designed by Tim this time.

Powers and abilities[]

Weatherman, eponymously, has the power to control the weather, which he calls his Storm Force. on his own or by the help of the Weathermobile, the Bus's super identity.

  • Aerokinesis - Weatherman can create heavy gusts of wind, updrafts, and tornadoes/cyclones.
  • Hydrokinesis - Weatherman can create rain, change the molecular structure of himself and his allies into water, and make clouds.
  • Electrokinesis - Weatherman can create thunderstorms and shoot lightning.

Weatherman is only limited to a select few abilities, but with the help of his sidekicks, Boy H₂O, Scarlet Scorch, the Tectonic Duo, Scarlet Scorch, Mighty Inferno, and the Weathermobile, he has access to a wider range of atmospheric and geologic control.

Relationships[]

  • Keesha Franklin/Weatherwoman (possible crush)
  • Tim Wright (author of his series, as most Weatherman episodes focus on Tim)
  • Carlos Ramón/Boy H₂O (most notable sidekick)
  • Liz Ard/Weatherlizard (pet lizard)
  • The Magic School Bus/The Weathermobile (vehicle)

Trivia[]

  • He appears in a cameo as an action figure and book in The Magic School Bus Inside a Hurricane as a TV series callback. Based on this reference, in the book series, it appears he has a rival or sidekick named Snow Man.
  • Sometimes, his name is rendered as Weather Man, much like how his archnemesis is rendered as Captain Rock Man and never Captain Rockman (due to copyright issues with Mega Man, who is called this in romanized Japanese). This never happens in subtitles, but it does appear in his cameo in The Magic School Bus Inside a Hurricane and in the TV Tie-In for “The Battle for Rock Mountain” (Rock Man vs. Weather Man).
