The Tales Glaciers Tell
Ralphie Strikes a Nerve

"Cool move, Dorothy Ann!"
Ms. Frizzle

The Tales Glaciers Tell is a Rides Again episode about climate change. It premiered as the tenth episode of season five with the rest of the season on September 29, 2017.

It is the eighth episode in production order for Season 5.

Ms. Frizzle’s outfit[]

In this episode, Ms. Frizzle wears a sky-blue parka that depicts a tundra inhabited by polar bears. She also wears ski goggles.

Later in the episode, post-field trip at D.A.'s storytelling tent, we get a slight glimpse of Ms. Frizzle's skirt but we never see along the hem line. Her pendant is a snowflake, and along the hip line are blue snowflake silhouettes. Underneath that is a tundra, similar to that on her parka, but lacking polar bears and made of noticeably darker blue.

Trivia[]

  • Amos Crawley (Arnold (Season 1), Harry Arm) voices Dorothy Ann's father. Amos Crawley will also go on to voice elderly Arnold in In the Zone.
  • The concepts discussed in this episode are similar to topics in The Magic School Bus and the Climate Challenge.
  • The tie-in book is called "Glacier Adventure", and it is shaped vertically instead of horizontally like those in the original series.
  • Janet and William make cameos in the audience.
  • Ralphie's outfit in Keesha’s air bubble (the 70s) becomes his default outfit starting in The Frizz Connection.
  • Wanda is the only student to not appear in any of the air bubbles, due to her being left in the present day.
  • This is the second time Arnold replaces the word “home” in “I knew I should have stayed home today!” with a specific type of home. He says “I knew I should have stayed in my cave today!” in the Neolithic air bubble. The first time he did this was in In the City, when he, as a fox, says, “I knew I should have stayed in my den, I mean, home today.”

Errors[]

  • In the 19th century layer, when Carlos says “Run!” during the eruption, the captions mistake his voice for Tim’s.

Allusions[]

  • SpongeBob SquarePants – This episode uses bubble transitions, however they go horizontally instead of vertically.

Air bubbles[]

  • Carlos and Ralphie: Time of the dinosaurs
  • Arnold and Jyoti: Stone Age
  • Tim: 19th century
  • Keesha: The '70s
