Season 1 of The Magic School Bus is the first season in total. It began on September 10, 1994 with "Gets Lost in Space" and it ended on December 4, 1994 with "Kicks Up a Storm". It contains 13 episodes.
Season 1 was produced around late 1993 to mid-1994, according to cels and storyboards.
It introduces the second design change in The Magic School Bus franchise (the Nelvana era), however Bruce Degen still used his art style when illustrating new MSB books.

- This is the first season of the original series. As a whole, it is the first one produced by Nelvana.
- This is the only season of the original series on Netflix. The others were deleted on May 19, 2021.
- This was probably to get users to watch Rides Again.
- The "Walkerville Elementary School theme" is the most used Leitmotif of "Ride on the Magic School Bus", used in the beginning of almost every episode (except for "Kicks Up a Storm" and "Goes to Seed").
- "In the Haunted House" had deleted scenes that were never shown on TV broadcasts for unknown reasons.
- Vince Commisso reads most of the descriptive audio dub.
- The Block of Ice Scene (Arnold takes off his space helmet), Keesha noticing Arnold's pyloric valve to his small intestine, and Carlos' famous look become notable Internet phenomena.
- The class shrinks in most of the episodes in this season except for "Gets Lost in Space" and "In the Haunted House".
- The book promo at the end of the PBS broadcast version of each episode features The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks, The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth, The Magic School Bus Inside the Human Body,The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System,The Magic School Bus on the Ocean Floor, and The Magic School Bus In the Time of the Dinosaurs.
- A female producer, voiced by Susan Blu, only appears in this season. She answers calls in "For Lunch", "Hops Home", "Meets the Rot Squad", "Gets Ants in Its Pants", and "Kicks Up a Storm”.
- Starting late this season, Max Beckford went through puberty, and he made Tim's voice deeper in the process.
- ”Gets Lost in Space” and “In the Haunted House” are the only episodes this season that don’t feature the Shrinkerscope.
- This is the only season in which Amos Crawley and Max Beckford voice Arnold and Tim, respectively.
- This is the only season of the original series in which Carlos and Ralphie's voices aren't lower-pitched for all of the episodes.
