Mr. Junkett (spelled Junk-It in the subtitles) is Walkerville's school district Vehicle Maintenance Inspector (or V.M.I). He is a character of the day in "Revving Up" and acts as the episode's antagonist.

His name is a pun on "junk it" (as noted by the pronunciation of his name, Carlos's line "Junkett wants to junk it", and his name's original spelling from the subtitles). He was voiced by the late Sherman Hemsley, best known for playing George Jefferson in All in the Family and The Jeffersons.

Appearance

Mr. Junkett is an African-American man who is an average height. He has a mustache and thinning black curly hair. He wears red coveralls with a white t-shirt underneath, a light blue cap and brown shoes. On the upper left of his coveralls is a blue patch with the letters V.M.I (initials for Vehicle Maintenance Inspector). He seems to wear extra clean coveralls under his current ones if they get dirty (particularly when he's working).

Personality

Mr. Junkett is short tempered and takes his job very seriously. He seems to be very oblivious of his actions and very boastful when he brags about his reward to the tow truck driver. At the end of the episode, he reforms and apologizes to Ms. Frizzle and her class. He also enjoys eating peanut butter sandwiches.

Trivia

• In the subtitles for "Revving Up", his surname is spelled Junk-It. In the description for the episode, it is spelled Junkett.
• Being a Walkerville school district staff member (as noted in the episode description, which says he's the district's VMI), his surname continues the trend of being named for an occupation or quality.
• Ironically, he decides to have the Magic School Bus scrapped even though he's the reason why it broke down in the first place.
