Mr. Bones is a possessed model skeleton who mostly appears at the entrance to the Frizzle classroom. He made his debut in the original series episode "Gets Lost in Space," and has since made other appearances in the franchise.
Physical Appearance[]
Mr. Bones is a model skeleton who is most seen wearing top hats. In The Magic School Bus, he is given sunglasses and a polka-dotted bowtie in addition to the hat. In a scene in "Cold Feet" and select spinoff books from the pre-Rides Again era, his sunglasses have been removed, and in The Magic School Bus Rides Again, only his top hat remains.
In The Magic School Bus, Mr. Bones has eyeballs. In scholastic early-reader books and The Magic School Bus Rides Again, they are removed from his sockets.
In some episodes he dresses up in relationship to the topic being taught in the episode, i.e., dresses as a pirate in Takes a Dive, or given a digestive tract in For Lunch.
Personality[]
He usually holds the door for the kids and sometimes interacts with situations inside the classroom such as covering his auditory meatus to block out Janet's rambling. As of season 1 of The Magic School Bus Rides Again, no signs of life are shown.
In some spin-off books from the pre-Rides Again period, Mr. Bones speaks a few times.
