Monster Power
DA and the Deep Blue Sea
The Land before Tim

"Isn't it the stuff of nightmares? I love it!"
Ms. Frizzle describing a goblin shark to the students

DA and the Deep Blue Sea (Ocean Zones) is the thirteenth episode of the first season of The Magic School Bus Rides Again. It first released on Netflix worldwide on September 29, 2017.

It is the eleventh episode in production order for season 5.

Ms. Frizzle’s outfit[]

Ms. Frizzle’s dress depicts a diagram of the zones of the ocean. Her necklace pendant is a yellow submarine reminiscent of the Bus' submarine form from "In the Swim", "Hides and Seeks", "Nothin' but Net", "The Frizz Connection", and "In the Zone".

Descriptions[]

  • Netflix: Ms. Frizzle turns the Magic School Bus into a submarine to take the class into the ocean's darkest depths and retrieve Jyoti's high-tech locket.
  • iTunes/YouTube/Amazon/Vudu/Microsoft: When D.A. accidentally loses Jyoti's high-tech locket in the ocean, it's all aboard the Magic School Submarine to retrieve it! Down they go through the layers of the sea, amazed by some of Earth's most unusual animals. But when their craft loses power at the darkest depths, can the kids find inspiration from the unlikely creatures they find there to turn their luck around?

Summary[]

When DA loses Jyoti’s nānī’s special locket in the ocean at Mussel Beach, they and the rest of the class chase it down, no matter how deep underwater they go.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • When Ms. Frizzle says "Have us Frizzles gotten you eaten yet?/But you didn't stay eaten, right?", it sums up the trope in which the Bus gets suddenly eaten or chewed by a living creature (not counting humans, as getting eaten by a human such as Arnold has always been intentional) with the class aboard, while they come up with a way to escape, seen in "Gets Eaten", "All Dried Up", "The Busasaurus," and "Hides and Seeks."
  • This is the second time it is implied that Wanda's favorite color is red, the first being Makes a Rainbow.
  • Going by production order, this is the eleventh episode of Season 5.[1][2]
  • Jyoti mentions her nānī, who gets her name and speaking debut in "Nothin' but Net".
  • This episode is part of a trilogy of episodes that takes place during the summer of fifth-grade. The others are “Making Magic” and “Goldstealer.”
  • This is the second time in which a student converts a measurement in the imperial system into metric. The first time was in "Kicks Up a Storm."
  • This episode reveals that Ralphie is ten years old. He is the first student with a known age.

Errors[]

  • During the “Have us Frizzles gotten you eaten yet?” scene, Keesha is absent.

Allusions[]

  • Orange is the New Black Upon reentering the mesopelagic zone, Keesha says “…where red is the new black.”
  • The Twilight Zone — When the class enters the twilight zone, Ms. Frizzle says it like the Twilight Zone narrator.
